Hobbies
Hello! My name is Melissa, and I'm a recent graduate (May 2014) of the MATESL program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While there, I also earned my certificate in TESL. During graduate school, I taught reading, writing, and conversational English for five semesters. I also have four years of experience as a volunteer and private tutor. While I have exclusively worked with adults (18+), I'm open to tutoring high school students. As a teacher/tutor, I strive to create a student-centered environment; provide high-quality, authentic materials; emphasize fluency AND accuracy (i.e., it's okay to make mistakes!); and, to the extent that I am able, support my students in achieving their goals. In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, and playing board games.
