Jessica A.
Private tutor in Saint Paul, MN
Education
I have a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota (2007), and a B.A. in chemistry from Carleton College (cum laude, 1998). My Ph.D. thesis work focused on synthetic inorganic chemistry, and involved making molecules that pushed the boundaries of what was known to be possible for first-row transition metals.
Experience
My previous teaching experience involves four years as a chemistry professor at Concordia University, Saint Paul, and eight semesters as a teaching assistant in the University of Minnesota chemistry department. I have been away from teaching for several years, but I am looking forward to spending time with students again. My favorite part of teaching is seeing "lightbulb moments," when students grasp a new concept for the first time and their faces light up with an appreciation of their own mastery of the material.

Hobbies
Currently, I am devoting a lot of time to making baby and toddler sweaters for my niece and nephews. I recently won a ribbon for a crocheted baby ensemble at the Minnesota State Fair. I am a diligent reader, and am presently making my way through the Sidney Chambers mystery series by James Runcie, as a break from the Masters of Rome historical novels by Colleen McCullough. I also watch lots of British television, including Doctor Who, Broadchurch and Sherlock, as well as Masterpiece Mystery in general. I'm a season behind on Downton Abbey, so no spoilers, please!
